NGC 6946<\/strong>, sometimes referred to as the Fireworks Galaxy<\/strong>, is a grand design<\/a>, face-on intermediate spiral galaxy<\/a> with a small bright nucleus, whose location in the sky straddles the boundary between the northern<\/a> constellations<\/a> of Cepheus<\/a> and Cygnus<\/a>. Its distance from Earth is about 25.2 million light-years<\/a> or 7.72 megaparsecs<\/a>,[2]<\/a><\/sup> similar to the distance of M101<\/a> (NGC 5457) in the constellation<\/a> Ursa Major<\/a>.[5]<\/a><\/sup> Both were once considered to be part of the Local Group<\/a>,[6]<\/a><\/sup> but are now known to be among the dozen bright spiral galaxies<\/a> near the Milky Way<\/a> but beyond the confines of the Local Group<\/a>.[7]<\/a><\/sup> NGC 6946 lies within the Virgo Supercluster<\/a>.[8]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n
