It was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel<\/a> on 29 November 1785.<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At around 200,000 light years in diameter, NGC 772 is somewhat larger than the Milky Way Galaxy<\/a>,[6]<\/a><\/sup> and is surrounded by several satellite galaxies<\/a> \u2013 including the dwarf elliptical<\/a>, NGC 770<\/a> \u2013 whose tidal forces<\/a> on the larger galaxy have likely caused the emergence of a single elongated outer spiral arm<\/a> that is much more developed and stronger than the others arms. Halton Arp<\/a> includes NGC 772 in his Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies<\/a> as Arp 78<\/a><\/strong>, where it is described as a “Spiral galaxy with a small high-surface brightness<\/a> companion”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
